Explore Health Careers WV is a collaborative effort among the West Virginia Behavioral Healthcare Providers Association, West Virgina Health Care Association, West Virginia Hospital Association, and the West Virginia Primary Care Association. Together these associations with their member hospitals, community health centers, behavioral health providers, and long-term care facilities have created this interactive, user-friendly career exploration website to assist individuals with their career search and encourage them to consider why a career in healthcare may be right for them.
Healthcare is facing acute workforce challenges in both clinical and nonclinical staffing and this collaborative effort aims to attract individuals to healthcare careers. While anyone can use this site to explore their healthcare career options, we are purposefully engaging teens in middle and high school with the goal of building a robust worker pipeline for the future.
West Virginia Health Care Association
The West Virginia Health Care Association (WVHCA), founded in 1976, is dedicated to advancing the quality and professionalism of long-term care services in the state. Representing over 120 nursing facilities, assisted living communities, and residential retirement centers, WVHCA supports its members through education, advocacy, and leadership. As the state’s largest long-term care trade association, WVHCA works to ensure that residents receive high-quality care in safe, supportive environments.
West Virginia Primary Care Association
Founded in 1983, the West Virginia Primary Care Association (WVPCA) is a nonprofit membership organization representing the state’s Community Health Centers. As the federally designated primary care association for West Virginia, WVPCA serves as a vital link between federal, state, and local healthcare entities, supporting nearly one-third of the state’s residents. The Association provides a range of services to help Health Centers deliver high-quality, cost-effective, and equitable care, including support in policy and advocacy, administration, workforce development, patient engagement, and clinical improvement. WVPCA also assists health centers with areas such as cooperative purchasing, emergency preparedness, and information technology.

We advocate for effective, resource-sensitive healthcare that includes a holistic approach to behavioral health services, addressing the needs of individuals across their lifespan. With over 100,000 people served annually through our members’ mental health, addiction recovery, and intellectual disability services, we are committed to strengthening the community-based care system through advocacy, education, and strategic partnerships.

The West Virginia Hospital Association (WVHA) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1925 to represent hospitals and health systems across the state. Its mission is to support members in creating a strong, healthy West Virginia by advocating for high-quality, accessible, and affordable healthcare. The WVHA is committed to promoting values of quality, transparency, integrity, collaboration, and innovation, ensuring hospitals contribute to both the health and economic well-being of West Virginians. In addition to hospitals, the Association also includes partner organizations that support the state’s healthcare system.
